About the Book:

Anne of Green Gables was written in 1908 by Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery.  It tells the tale of a red-headed orphan girl named Anne Shirley who lives on Prince Edward Island. She gets adopted by Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, an elderly brother and sister duo who live on a farm called Green Gables. Anne brings unexpected adventure into their lives with her curiosity and imagination.

Anne is fanciful, imaginative, eager to please, and dramatic. She is also adamant that she is Anne with an “E.” However, she is defensive about her appearance, despising her locks of red, freckles and pale, thin frame, but she likes her nose. She is talkative, especially when it comes to describing her fantasies and dreams.

Anne of Green Gables has been translated into at least 36 languages and has sold more than 50 million copies, making it one of the bestselling books worldwide. The book has been adapted as films, made-for-television movies, and animated and live-action television series. Musicals and plays have also been created with productions annually in Europe and Japan.
